frequently asked questions

Q: What is Chiropractic?

A: Chiropractic is the relationship between structure and function. The relationship between the brain, nervous system, and the rest of the body is significant. The nerves that carry information throughout your body branch off from your spinal cord, which is housed by the column of bones, called the vertebra. If any of these vertebra move out of their correct position and become subluxated, they can put pressure on the nerves, which causes interference in the communication process between the brain and the rest of the body. Chiropractic removes this interference and allows your nervous system to function at its best.

Q: What are some benefits of Chiropractic Care?

A: When most people hear the word Chiropractic or Chiropractor they automatically think back pain. In reality however chiropractic care helps with many different types of health problems. It corrects the cause rather than treating the symptom with a natural way of health, instead of with the use of needles, drugs, or surgery. It improves overall health and immunity. Not only does chiropractic slow or stop spinal degeneration, it also makes spinal disks healthier resulting in better posture. So next time you hear the word Chiropractic don't think doctor of back pain, think doctor of health.

Q: What is a subluxation?

A: The bones of the spine protect the spinal cord, and when one of those bones gets twisted out of position it is called a subluxation. A subluxation puts unnecessary pressure on a nerve, and may cut off the nerve supply to different parts of the body. Subluxations that are left untreated or uncorrected will often lead to symptoms of pain, disease, and an unhealthy expression of life. Subluxations can be a silent problem for many years before you ever feel a symptom. Only a Doctor of Chiropractic is properly trained to locate and correct subluxations.

Q: How do people get subluxations?

A: There are many different ways subluxations can occur. Most people develop their first subluxation during birth when the doctor uses a for of up to 60 – 100 pounds to aid in delivery. Normal everyday activities such as improper lifting, alcohol, emotional stress, long periods of standing or sitting, sleeping twisted or on your stomach, and automobile accidents are jut a few ways people can get a subluxation. Subluxations usually go unnoticed since they rarely cause pain, people don't realize that subluxations are there, so many people leave them untreated until major damage has occurred, and pain has become noticeable.

Q: What is an adjustment?

A: An adjustment is a special technique used only by chiropractors to correct subluxations.Chiropractors use their hands to move the bones of the spine back into their correct position. Spinal adjustments remove the pressure that subluxated bones put on nerves.

Q: Why should children see a Chiropractor?

A: A child's first subluxation usually occurs during the birth process. The spine of a newborn is very soft and undeveloped. It has a tendency to suffer some damage during delivery. It is estimated that during a normal delivery, 60 – 100 pounds of pulling pressure is exerted on the spinal cord, while removing the baby from the birth canal. As the child begins to grow and become more active the injuries to their spine are countless. The falls while learning how to walk, the summersaults children try to do, athletic activities, and all the other adventurous activities children try to do will all cause children to become subluxated. Signs and symptoms don't usually show up until later on in life. Parents bring their children to the dentist for preventative care the same should be for chiropractic. Why wait until your child has a problem when you could have prevented the problem form the beginning. A child free from subluxation will minimize the risk of future health challenges.
